Global Playground helping build schools in developing nations

Global Playground (Washington, DC) is an American nonprofit organization that funds education projects in developing nations, and promotes cross cultural understanding. The first two school building projects are in Uganda (Africa) and Cambodia (Asia).

“Currently there are over 2 billion school-age children in our world. Over 1.75 billion, or 86%, live in less-developed regions.” (United Nations Report, 2003)

Global Playground’s first project (with the assistance of the Building Tomorrow organization) is the building of a school building in Wakiso, Uganda. As of April of 2007, Global Playground raised the $32,000 needed to fund the school’s construction with the construction set to be completed in mid-2008. The school will serve 325 children in 6 surrounding villages.

Global Playground’s second school (working together with American Assistance for Cambodia) will be to build a 5 classroom school for middle school students in the Kandal Province. The Asian Development Bank will match Global Playground’s donation to the project. When completed, the school will be sustained by the Cambodian Ministry of Education.

Research is now being conducted by Global Playground for future projects in Central America and Eastern Europe.

Information on donating, coming to an event, partnering with Global Playground, or learning more about the programs can be found on their website.
