Travel-volunteer placements in developing countries

A Broader View (Wyncote, PA) is an American nonprofit organization that provides volunteer travel placements in short and long term volunteer projects in developing countries around the world.

Programs are offered in 17 countries and include over 150 programs in 43 different locations. Volunteers are assigned to local nonprofit and humanitarian organizations to work on community based projects.

Sarah and Oliver Ehlers, founded A Broader View, after witnessing firsthand the difference volunteers made in helping a local orphanage in Chile, South America. With almost 20 years of combined travel and hospitality experience, they have created an affordable program which offers travelers a chance to volunteer abroad and make a difference in the world.

Programs are offered in Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Uganda, Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, Cameroon, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, China, Nepal, India and the Philippines.

Projects include:

    That’s a fair question. I’m not in a position to answer that question. But I would say you might look at their history, look at their ‘volunteer feedback’ page (link on their homepage), and maybe even ask them to talk to previous volunteers directly.

    You can also plug in the word ‘volunteer’ on this website and see that hundreds of organizations are seeking volunteers. If there is one located in your particular area, then you may be able to visit them directly … and maybe even help them locally until you are comfortable with their operations.

    If you have a specific country destination you prefer, or cause, you might search specifically for country or cause (malaria, etc.).

    Great work.

    When you are trying to get as much information of and organization where you will like to volunteer the steps are:

    See if they are a register 501 non profit Charity Organization, see for other websites with more information, check the feedback page, ask for emails of other volunteers, call using the toll free number and make some questions, also check the FAQ page for more answers. And at the end see the price page, many organizations ask for high fees. A Broader View has the best price in the internet.
