Netlife providing anti-malarial nets to Africa

Netlife, founded in 2005, is an American nonprofit that was founded by two Saint Louis University medical students, Andrew Sherman and Jesse Matthews, to assist in malaria prevention worldwide. Malaria kills about 1 million people each year.

All funds raised go to the purchase of long-term insecticide treated mosquito nets, which are distributed to villagers in need.

90% of those killed by malaria live in sub-Saharan Africa. 4,000 nets will be distributed in the Kedougou Region of Senegal in the summer of 2008 through a cooperation with Peace Corps volunteers.

In 2007, Netlife distributed 1,100 nets to 17 villages in Senegal.

Villagers not only are provided the nets, but trained in how to best install and use their new anti-malarial bed nets. Health information sessions are also conducted for the villagers.

A donation of $25 will help protect about 16 villagers.

More information on donation opportunities or program details can be found on their website.
