Student Project Africa Network (SPAN), founded in 2005, has sent nearly 50 volunteers to over 15 organizations in Kenya during the past two years. Volunteers have built basketball courts and libraries, taught students, cooked, brought electricity and water to schools, installed wiring and plumbing, worked on malaria and typhoid campaigns, assisted in HIV/AIDS clinics and many other activities in partnership with local African organizations.

SPAN is a partnership between volunteers and qualified African organizations who are working for sustainable development, uplifting human rights and equal opportunity. Volunteers have included doctors, CEO’s, teachers, college students and others.

Pistis Academy & Orphanage in Kenya is one of SPAN’s partner organizations and receives support such as food, clothing, soap, beds and other supplies for orphans. SPAN Executive Board Members Cameron Dunkin and Kai Staats are on-site at the Pistis Academy in the spring of 2008.

SPAN Directors are working on the One Laptop Per Child initiative to provide Linux-based laptops to each NGO in Africa. The laptops would provide tools for teaching, learning, networking, project management and accounting.
