ONE uniting over 2 million Americans to end poverty
By David on May 26, 2008 in World
ONE is the American organization (over 2.4 million people from all 50 states) that is part of the international campaign of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP). Organizations from over 100 countries support the mission to end poverty and help people trapped in gross inequality.
Over 100 nonprofit, advocacy and humanitarian organizations have united with the ONE campaign, including Bread for the World, CARE, DATA, International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, Plan USA, Save the Children U.S., World Concern and World Vision. Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Kate Hudson, Jamie Fox, Salma Hayek, George Clooney, Bill Gates and many others support ONE.
The ONE campaign presses American leaders to allocate more resources and funding to fight HIV/AIDS, health care, education, clean water, food shortages, debt cancellation, fair trade, corruption, women’s rights, children’s rights, and other poverty and inequality issues around the world.
Americans supporting ONE can sign the ONE Declaration online, join local ONE chapters, wear ONE gear such as t-shirts and wristbands, send letters to Congress or the President supporting legislation, donate, or join online communities.
Full details on online programs, volunteering, internship and employment opportunities and other details can be found on their website.
Donations to ONE go directly to awareness raising and advocacy campaigns. Specific relief and development work in poor countries is conducted directly through ONE partners.
