Paths of Native Africa using technology to improve lives

Paths of Native Africa (PONA), based in San Francisco, is an American charity that works in Africa to integrate modern technology for the sole purpose of overcoming suffering and hardship. Solutions are provided on individual and communal levels, and educational and cultural exchanges are opened through the process.

In June 2008, three members of Paths of Native Africa will travel to Nigeria. In cooperation with Engineers Without Borders, the team will implement a project involving BoGo solar powered flashlights and the secondary school. 500 solar powered lights have been donated, and the proceeds of their sale by students will launch a scholarship fund for the secondary school.

The scholarship fund will provide continuing educational opportunities for the students. And the entire community is educated on the applications of solar energy.

Currently donations are being taken to ensure the travel to Nigeria by PONA representatives. Any funds in excess of the transportation costs will go directly into the scholarship fund.

Other past and current projects include:

* Building of classrooms.
* Establishing a library.
* Building at least 100 desks.
