The Christian Children’s Fund (CCF), based in Richmond, Virginia, has been bringing positive change to the world’s children since 1938, and assists more than 13.2 million people in 31 countries. Projects focus on such areas as Early Childhood Development, Education, Health and Sanitation, Nutrition, Sustainable Livelihoods, and Emergency and Disaster Relief.
Some examples of specific projects include:
Zambia / Mozambique - CCF Zambia has responded to children and families suffering from recent floods that have displaced thousands of people, drowned livestock and caused extensive crop damage. The special focus is on providing chlorinated water.
Afghanistan - CCF has assisted 1,5000 children in the Takhar Province suffering from recent heavy snows and extremely cold weather. There is now a fear of major flooding in the spring as the snow begins to melt. Programs are underway to distribute supplies and help families prepare for potential flooding and mudslides.
Vietnam - Working with its ChildFund affiliate in Australia, CCF has established sponsorship programs in Vietnam benefiting about 17,500 children and family members. Programs involve safe water, medical services, public education, modern agricultural training, and micro-enterprise services to develop sustainable sources of income. About half of the households lack toilets and 90% of the schools have no water or sanitation facilities in rural communities where CCF works.
Countries assisted around the world include:
Asia - Afghanistan, Timor Leste, Indonesia, India, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam.
Americas - Bolivia, Brazil, Dominica/St. Vincent, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, USA.
Africa - Angola, Chad, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Uganda, Zambia.
Eastern Europe - Belarus.
2008 Study Tours to see CCF’s child-focused programs in action are planned for Brazil, Mexico and Thailand.
