iEarn (International Education and Resource Network) is a nonprofit (New York) with over 20,000 schools and youth organizations in more than 115 countries. Founded in 1998, iEarn is the world’s largest nonprofit global network that enables teachers and youth to use the internet and other technologies to work together on projects that enhance learning and make a difference in the world.
iEarn involves approximately 2,000,000 students daily in collaborative project work … working in a total of 33 languages. Every project has to answer the question, “How will this project improve the quality of life on the planet?”
Students range from ages 5 to 19, and projects are focused in the areas of arts, literature, language arts, social studies, math, science and the environment. There are over 150 iEarn projects designed and facilitated by teachers and students that can be chosen by each group.
All projects provide examples of how technology can make a difference in teaching and learning, and all projects include a final ‘product’ or exhibition showing the results of the collaboration. These have included magazines, creative writing anthologies, websites, reports to government officials, arts exhibits, and performances.
In some countries, the iEarn program is within the Ministry of Education. Many countries have their own iEarn Coordinator and teacher support structure, and other countries have a separate non-profit organization administer the program.
iEarn’s website has an iEarn Collaboration Center where you can browse project descriptions and student-produced media from around the world. Other information on donating and program details can be found on their website.
