Houston Rockets owner donates $500,000 to Mutombo Hospital

The Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center in the city of Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo) in March, 2008 received a $500,000 donation from Leslie Alexander, owner of the Houston Rockets pro basketball team. The hospital is named after the late mother of Dikembe Mutombo.
Dikembe, who was born in Kinshasa, has played 17 years in the NBA and is currently a member of the Houston Rockets.
The Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center in Kinshasa includes a 300-bed facility with state of the art equipment.
Mutombo has already contributed over $15-million towards the $29-million project. The hospital is the first hospital of its kind to be built in the DR Congo in 40 years and is a special project of the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation.
The hospital officially opened in July, 2007.
The hospital’s clinics will treat all all conditions, including heart and lungs, urology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology.
The facility will also train local health professionals with the latest innovations in health care.
