International Kids Fund providing medical care to children

International Kids Fund (Miami, Florida) is a charity that has helped more than 125 foreign children with urgent healthcare needs in receiving expert medical care from specialists at Holtz Children’s Hospital. The children come primarily from Latin America and the Caribbean.

International Kids Fund (IKF) was founded in 2001 by Jackson Memorial Foundation, which is the principal fund-raising arm for the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, a hospital that treats more children than any other hospital in Florida.

IKF was founded in response to the families from Latin America and the Caribbean who regularly show up in Miami seeking financial and medical support for their sick children.

Since laws prohibit Holtz Children’s Hospital from using publicly funded resources to care for non-residents, the International Kids Fund was set up to receive donations from individuals, corporations and organizations to provide critical care to these children.

Treatments include such conditions as retinoblastoma, fibrous displasia fibrosa, netherton syndrome, urinary and intestinal tract malformations, brain tumors, and congenital heart disease.

Children accepted for treatment must be fighting a medical condition that cannot be treated in his or her home country. Other eligibility requirements and information on how to donate or volunteer are shown on their website.
