Mano a Mano Medical Resources assists Bolivians

Minnesota-based nonprofit Mano a Mano Medical Resources (Mano a Mano) was founded in 1994 by a group of volunteers who have been providing American donated medical supplies, instruments and equipment to non-profit hospitals and clinics in Bolivia that serve the poor. Almost 95% of rural Bolivians live below the poverty level.

Since 1997, Mano a Mano has assisted in the construction, staffing and opening of 76 health clinics in communities that previously had no access to health care in Bolivia. In 2002, Mano a Mano initiated service programs including clean water, sanitation, road improvement projects, construction of classrooms and teacher housing, and emergency medical air lifts.

In 2006, the 70 clinics that Mano a Mano operated …
* Had over 280,000 patient visits.
* Delivered 1,486 babies.
* Vaccinated nearly 42,000 Bolivians.
* Included more than 83,000 individuals in health education sessions.

Services provided by clinics include community outreach, vaccinations, health education, well child visits, family planning, prenatal and post natal care, attended deliveries, acute care for illness and accident cases, management of chronic illnesses and health training.

Information on donation of financial gifts or surplus medical goods, as well as volunteer information, is available on their website.
