World Exchange for Health and Human Services

Oakland-based World Exchange for Health and Human Services (WEHHS) ships surplus medical and educational equipment and supplies to developing countries around the world. WEHHS also sponsors indigenous artists to perform in the Bay Area in an effort to promote cultural exchanges between countries.
A 40-foot container of supplies was delivered to Cameroon in October. A previous shipment to Cameroon was made in August, 2006. Visiting physicians will team with local physicians in conducting health fairs and clinics. Donated supplies include exam tables, EKG machine, wheelchairs, crutches and pharmaceuticals. Cameroon has only 10-15 physicians per 100,000 people, one of the lowest ratios in the world.
Another shipment will be going to Chiapas, Mexico in the Spring of 2008.
Since its founding in 2003, WEHHS has sent needed supplies to Croatia, Mongolia, Morocco, Jordan, India, Chile, Ecuador and Cuba.
Donation and volunteer opportunities are mentioned on their website.
