American Foundation for Children with AIDS

American Foundation for Children with AIDS (AFCA) works in Africa to improve the lives of children struggling with the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. AFCA’s (Lawrence, Kansas) activities include direct relief services, medical and social support, education and advocacy for children.
Over $5-million in aid is projected in 2007.
AFCA partners with 4 hospitals in sub-Saharan Africa including:
Uganda - Mulago Hospital - over 100 children are seen daily.
Kenya - St. Joseph’s Center of Hope - in addition to medical treatment, the medical center cares for over 300 orphans.
Kenya - St. Mary’s Mission Hospital - Over 1,000 outpatient visits each day.
Kenya - Archdiocese of Mombasa Community Based Health Care and AIDS Relief Program - 20 new HIV+ referrals are seen each week, and approximately 5,000 HIV+ people are being treated. An orphanage of 300 children is also operated by this program.
