Ecologic Development Fund helps Latin and South America

Ecologic Development Fund is an American-based charity (Cambridge, MA) that protects lush forests and rare wildlife in Latin America while helping people create a better life for themselves. Since 1993, Ecologic has worked with over 12 partner organizations in 8 Latin America countries to benefit more than 500,000 poor and indigenous people.

Ecologic works in countries such as Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Peru, with an emphasis on training and enpowering local people to protect their natural environment.

Conserving natural resources, protecting freshwater sources, conserving wetlands and forests, developing ecologically sound business enterprises, and encouraging cooperation between governments and environmental stewards in local policy decisions are some of the challenges of Ecologic.

Ecologic-supported projects have:

Preserved or protected more than 2 million acres of biodiverse habitats in Latin America.

Provided natural resource management training in over 800 rural villages.

Protected 31 vital watersheds.

Established 38 tree nurseries to restore degraded forests.

Implementing environmental education programs in 52 elementary and middle schools.

Volunteer, internship and donation information is available on their website.
