Physicians for Human Rights Charity

Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) (based in Cambridge, MA) is a nonprofit that has been working for 20 years to organize health professionals to promote health, dignity, justice, and human rights all over the world.

PHR shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to ban landmines, and is now working in Sudan documenting the atrocities and genocide in the Darfur region, lobbying for additional protection, and many other efforts to help the refugees. 

Some of the Physicians for Human Rights projects include:

  • Darfur Survival Campaign
  • Campaign to Ban Landmines
  • Health Action AIDS Campaign
  • Campaign Against Torture
  • International Forensic Program - investigates war crimes, human rights violations, genocide.
  • Asylum Network - conduct medical evaluations for victims of torture and abuse.

PHR’s work has contributed to investigations in Sierra Leone, genocide convictions in Rwanda and Bosnia, and protecting asylum seekers in the USA.
