Chaplains “Hearts for Baghdad” helping local Iraqis

While many charities have pulled out of Iraq because of security concerns, “Hearts for Baghdad” is a humanitarian program administered by military base chaplains at the Civilian Military Operations Center (CMOC) in Baghdad.
Hearts for Baghdad delivers diapers, personal hygiene items, shampoo, lotions, medicine, shoes, school supplies, soccer balls and other needed items to local Iraqis. More than 1,200 Iraqis come to the CMOC each month to receive basic medical care, dental assistance or legal aid.
The CMOC is a link between the Iraqi and U.S. governments where local Iraqis can find the appropriate agency to help them.
While parents are seeking assistance, a playground is available and many American soldiers volunteer to play with the children.
The chaplains are encouraging American donations of lotions, shampoos, vitamins, hygiene items, soccer equipment, etc. Many soldiers are receiving donations from friends in the USA and donating them to the Hearts for Baghdad program.
You can find more info on the program, including the mailing address for donations and email address, at www.mnf-iraq.com - type “hearts for baghdad” in search function at top of web page.

As the founder of a non-profit (Airborne Angel Cadets of Texas) that supports our American soldiers, I have found that it is increasingly important to support our soldiers efforts to help the Iraqi people. It has saved the lives of many of our soldiers by gaining the trust and hearts of the locals and what better way than thru their children. No matter where one is in the world, it is a universal nature that parents want to give the best of care to their children. In a war torn country, items that we so often take for granted such as shampoo, lotions and school supplies are luxuries to these countries. I applaud these soldiers for they are making history and changing the world one child at a time. It makes me proud to be an American.
God Bless America
