American India Foundation works for positive change in India

American India Foundation, with USA offices in New York City and Santa Clara, California, focuses on improving education, jobs and public health in India … with a special emphasis on enpowering women, elementary education and HIV/AIDS.

Since 2001, the non-profit has raised over $40-million for social and economic change in India. Local offices are in New Delhi and Bangalore. Former President Bill Clinton serves as Honorary Chair.

American India Foundation strives to operate its charity similar to a venture capital firm in carefully choosing projects that offer good social, economic and / or environmental value to Indian society.

AIF’s Service Corps Fellowship has so far sent over 140 talented and skilled young Americans to serve for 10 months with 67 different non-governmental organizations in India. The program not only helps India, but helps future American leaders understand and appreciate India and its people.

AIF’s Digital Equalizer Program is a Computer Aided Learning (CAL) program that is bridging the education and digital divide in India and preparing tens of thousands of children to compete in the digital economy. Targeting children in grades 6 through 10 (ages 10-14), AIF supports a DE school for 3 years and prepares the school for complete self-sufficiency after that period. The program is highly integrated with the local school’s curriculum.
